progenitor of the family came, with his father, William
Whiteside, born 1710 in Ireland, died 1761, Augusta, Co., VA, in
1745 to Pennsylvania and later moved South to settle in Augusta
Co., VA.

Leander (as he was known) and family lived at White Plains,
Benton Co., AL and served as County Surveyor and noted for his
beautiful flourishing penmanship. He later bought land on the
Coosa River near Ohalchee and built a new home. Prior to
completion of the new home the old one in White Plains burned
and the family was forced to move into the uncompleted new home
without furniture and slept on the floor until some could be
built.
