    28. Herndon Family

     
         WILLIAM HERNDON, born 1649 England, died 1722 in Virginia, married 1677, Catherine Digges, born 1654 VA, died 1727 VA, the youngest daughter of Gov. Edward Digges

         William patented large tracks of land in St. Stephens Parish, New Kent Co., VA in 1673/4.
    Their son:

    EDWARD HERNDON, born 1678 St. Stephen Parish, New Kent Co., VA, died 1743/5 New Kent Co., VA, married 1698, Mary Waller, daughter of John Waller.
    Children:
      EDWARD JR., born 1704
      John, died 1786, married Mary George
    EDWARD HERNDON JR., born 1704 VA, died 1759 in Spotts Co., VA, will proved Nov. 5, 1759, married Mary Brock.  He was Sheriff of Spotts Co. in 1734, 1738-40.
    Children:
      JOSEPH, born May 1, 1737
      Edward
     JOSEPH HERNDON, born May 1, 1737 Spotts Co., VA, died Oct. 18, (28) , 1810 "Mattapony", Spotts Co. , VA, married (1) 1757, Philadelphia Foster, born 1736, died 1764.  He was a Member of the Committee for Safety of Spotts Co., 1755
    Their son:
      Edward (1761-1837), married 1780 Margaret Whisler (1763-1808)
    Married (2) May 15, 1765, Mary Ann Minor, born Mar. 5, 1741, died 1818, the daughter of John Minor (1707-1755)

         Joseph was a vestryman of  St. George Church and  a Signer of the Fredericksburg  Resolution  Apr. 28, 1775
    Their daughter:

    LUCY HERNDON, born Aug. 23, 1779, died Aug. 12, 1832, married Jan. 30, 1800, Dabney Minor Jr., born Jun. 22, 1779, died Mar. 8, 1822
