The first member of this family, Ralph Chapman,
came to America on the ship "Elizabeth " in 1635. He was a
ships carpenter in Southwark, Surry, apart of present day
London, England. The first location of the family was in
Duxbury, Plymouth Co., MA and then later they moved a short
distance north to Marshfield. His marriage is the first one
recorded in Duxbury.
