COL. THOMAS CARR I, born 1641, died after 1724, came from
England in 1663 and settled at "Topping Castle", Caroline Co.,
VA, married 1676 Lucy (Mary) Garland, born 1635, the daughter of
John Garland, born 1607, who came to America on the ship
"Assurance" in 1631 to Henrico Co., VA and moved in 1663 to King
William Co. VA. Col. Thomas received a Patent for 546 acres of
land in St. John's Parish, King William Co. in 1701 for
transporting 11 persons to the Colony, He was Justice in 1702,
High Sheriff of King William Co. 1706-09, Burgess for Middlesex
Co., 1711, Member of the Quorum of King William Co., 1714. Their son:
MAJOR THOMAS CARR II, of "Bear Castle", born 1679, died 1783 at
"Bear Castle" , King William Co. , VA, married Mary Dabney, born
Jan. 22, 1683, the daughter of Corneille Dabney q.v. The Major
was High Sheriff of King William Co., VA. 1722-23, First Justice
of the Peace for Caroline Co., VA 1726. (See

SARAH CARR, born Nov. 19, 1714 at "Topping
