    2A. Andrews/Andrus Family

    The beginning of the Andrews family it America was descended from Bishop Lancelot Andrews, D. D. an eminent English Devine born in London, 1555, and died at Winchester House, Sep. 25, 1626. He was successively Bishop of Chichester, of Ely and Winchester, and was made Privy Councilor by King James I of England. The descendants appear to be in order:

    William, born ca 1572

    William, born Dec. 7, 1595, of Ipswich, Suffolk, England. His wife, born ca 1604.
         This Progenitor of the family came on the ship "James" leaving London on Apr. 6, 1635 for Boston. MA. 
         He removed from Boston to become one of the original settlers of the New Haven Colony, Cumberland Co. CT.

    Nathan, born Nov. 17, 1639 and Deborah Abbott, born ca 1647

    Nathan, born Oct. 18, 1662 and Elizabeth Miles, born Dec. 21, 1665

    Jonathan, born Oct. 10, 1701 and Jemima Hotchkiss, born Nov. 26, 1702

    Abel, born Jan. 28, 1728, mar. Feb. 10, 1757, Wallingford, CT,  Lattice/Letis Williams.
         From here the record seems to be more precise.

    Samuel Andrews, born 1757, mar. Annice ?Murray, and changed his name to Andrus.
         They had at least two sons: Charles and James.

    James Henderson Andrus, born Feb. 3, 1791, Stillwater, Saratoga Co. NY, died Feb. 15, 186?, at Pavillion, Kalamazoo Co., MI, mar. Dec. 31, 1815, in Prattsburg, Stueben Co., NY, Hannah Mary Dodge, born Oct. 14, 1794, Westmoreland, Oneida Co, NY, died May 17, 185?,  daughter of Phineas and Esther Dodge.

    William Patrick Andrus, born Oct. 24, 1816, mar. ca. 1841/2, Cohocton, Steuben Co., NY, Mary Gilbert born 1821 probably in Bristol, Ontario Co., NY. They resided in Prattsburg, Stueben Co., NY until moving their family to Carbondale, Jackson Co., IL where he died.
