Arthur (the immigrant)
--came to America from either England or Wales previous to July 29, 1697, *
possibly previous to King Philip's War, married Mary Brown of Providence, a
daughter probably of Rev. John and Mary (Holmes) Brown," and settled permanently
in Quidnesset, where he died between Nov. 7, 1725 and Sept. 13, 1726. Her death
doubtless preceded his a number of years. The natural order of their children's
names is not known, but the names of the sons apart from the names of the
daughters, as given the following lists stand probably in their natural order,
excepting the name of Thomas, though John may have been younger than Philip:

Chad -- the
youngest son, was born in 1696, and named for Chad Brown. He married (1) in
Newport, R.I. Nov. 15, 1725, Elizabeth Major, and dwelt in North Kingstown
certainly until March 30, 1733," sometime after which they moved into Old
Scituate, and settled within the present limits of the town of Foster, R.I.,
where she died. He married(2) Mary Wood, who was living when his will was made,
April 23, 1757, seventeen years before it was proved, May 22, 1773.

Peleg -- born Aug
20, 1749, and married Nov 26, 1772, Anna Cole, who was born Mar 23, 1755, and
she was a daughter of Daniel and Anna (Young) Cole. They left Foster, R. I.,
in the Autumn of 1797, and settled in Edmeston, Otsego Co., N Y, between the
Wharton Creek and the Unadilla River, west of Edmeston Centre, where they dwelt
until the year 1820, when they removed to the western part of the town of New
Berlin, Chenaneo Co., where he died, Aug. 20, 1824, and she Jan. 11, 1844.
