Fairfield, Vt., June 9, 1848. 
   He was a merchant, and they dwelt in Fairfield.

Feb. 8, 1850, and married June 8,1867, Kittie May Kirk, who was born in 
Milton, Vt., Nov. 5, 1849, and died Nov.10, 1874.

     784.  COMFORT BARNES (8) — Silas (7). James Parker (6), Abraham 
(5), Benjamin (4:), Philip (3), Arthur (2), Arthur (1) — was born March 26,
1837, and married Jan. 1,1858, Orpha Ann Strail, who was a daughter of Martin 
and Maria Strail, of Tully Centre, N.Y., and who died May 1, 1859.
   He married (2) at Grand Rapids, Mich., Dec. 24, 1863, Frances Adaline 
Buddington, who was a daughter of Ezra Hamilton and Lucretia Maria (Harback) 
Buddington. 
   He was a printer and editor, and dwelt at Clinton, Ia., where he was a deacon in 
the First Congregational Church, and from Jan. 9,1864, to the close of the war 
was a member of Battery E, 1st Michigan Artillery. He removed from Clinton to 
Jackson, Mich., where she died March 26, 1873.

married July 4:, 1867, Susie Diantha Graves, who was born Sept. 3, 1850, and 
who was a daughter of William Gage and Nancy (Griswold) Graves, who came 
from Vermont in 1853, and settled in the Township of Blendon, Ottawa Co., 
Mich.; 
   They dwelt in Blendon.

   He was a farmer, and they dwelt at Roscoe, Winnebago Co., Ill., where ho 
died June 30, 1873.

married at Brighton, Ill., Nov. 4,1863, Emily Spaulding Chase, who was born at 
Cornish, N. H., March 25, 1836, and who was a daughter of Taylor Gilman * 
and Emily (Spaulding †) Chase, of  Brighton, Ill., since 1837, but formerly of 
Cornish, N. H. 
   He was a telegraph operator, and went to St. Louis in 1856, but after 1864 
dwelt at Brighton.

(5), Philip (4), Philip (3), Arthur (2), Arthur (1) — was horn  March 28, 1847, 
and enlisted Feb. 29, 1864, joining Co. C, 36th Regt. Wisconsin Vols.  He was 
in the battles of Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Hatches 
Run, Petersburg, and High Bridge.  He was wounded at Cold Harbor, and was in 
the hospital at Washington and Philadelphia until he returned to duty, Feb. 23, 
863.  He was on the ground when Lee surrendered, and was discharged at 
Jeffersonville, Ind., July 25, 1865. 
   He married Sept. 25, 1870, Rebecca Welch, and dwelt at Tomah, Monroe 
Co., Wis.

   He was a farmer, and they dwelt at Hamburg, Wis., where he died after an 
illness of three days, Feb. 12, 1872.
