to Stephen, fifth child of the above family. which bible
was in the possession
of Stephen Rensselaer Stewart, of Springfield,
Otsego Co., N.Y.
STEPHEN (2)— Alexander
(1)— was born July 25, 1758, married
Hannah Stewart, who was a. daughter of Nathan (or Nathaniel) Stewart, of
Sherman, Conn.
He was a saddler by trade, and they settled in Sherman, where
seven
of their
children were born. He enlisted in the War of the Revolution,
and
after the war became ensign of the 16th company of militia in the

17th regiment of Connecticut. His commission was dated at .New
Haven,
Conn., Oct. 26, 1791, and bears the signature of Samuel Huntington,
George
Wyllys being secretary. One year latter he became lieutenant of the
same
company.
The family moved from Sherman to
Warren, Herkimer Co., N.Y., in the
month of December, 1798, where they afterwards dwelt and there died. They
were buried in a family cemetery on their homestead, which homestead was
situated about four miles northwest of the village of
Richfield Springs.

tradition prevails that four brothers came from France to the Colonies

the time or a little before the Revolution, two of whom became rebels
and two Tories; the Tories going to Canada, and Captain James was one of
the
two brothers who were rebels, remained in the Colonies. I
He

Co., N. Y. He is said to have been married twice, particulars of second

She married for her second husband Mason Tilden,
and removed to Hiram,
Portage Co., O., but died not far from Chicago living
with her children.
ROSANNA (3)—James (2), James
(1)—was born in
Warren, N.Y., Nov.
1, 1808, and married at the Hope Factory, so-called, near Cooperstown, N.Y.,
Henry Raught, concerning whose parentage and ancestry
nothing has been
communicated.
They moved to Watertown, N.Y., where he
followed the trade of a mason.
From this place they went to the western part
of Pennsylvania. where he engaged
in the lumber trade on the Clarion River, at
a place afterwards known as Raught's
Mills, and where they died.

Philadelphia.

and married Lucina Woodward.
They dwelt in Watertown.
