50. Welch Family |
| Michael Welch Sr., born 1778, came from County Cork, Ireland. He first moved to London, England where his son was born. In 1818 his wife died in London and he came to America settling in Perry Co., OH. In 1857 he closed the book on his life. Our record starts then with his son: MICHAEL WELCH JR., born Jun. 16, 1816 London, England, died May 4, 1893 Pleasant Ridge, Vernon Co., WI, married (1) Dec. 10, 1842, Susanna Whips. In 1855 he moved his family to the area known as Pleasant Ridge, near Viroqua, WI and was known for many years as Welch Ridge. He bought 200 acres of land from a Mr. Conkling on which was a log house about 80 rods from the main road on the ridge. Later he built a frame house on the main road (the residence of Andrew Tollefson in 1916). He was known as a good farmer and a good father. Before he died he owned 340 acres of land and was able to loan money to his neighbors in time of need. Children:
