49. Waste Family

       
           It is believed that two brohers, James and Bezaleel, came from Scotland, probably from near Edenburgh, and landed at Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1670.  They most likely moved to Plymouth, MA as it is here that we find the first known member of the family from whom this line of the family descends.

      CHARLES WASTE, born Jul. 5, 1720 in or near Middleboro, Plymouth Co., MA, died Jul. 10, 1765 in a fall while carrying a bar of iron across a foot bridge. He became an iron bloomer & owned a foundry in Dartmouth.  Married Nov. 17, 1737, Deborah Williamson, born 1718 in Plymouth, MA, died at age 72 in 1790 at Wilmington, Windham Co., VT, the daughter of George Williamson of the Pilgrim family and Mary Crisp.

      BEZALE..EL WASTE, born May 14, 1742 New Bedford, Bristol Co., MA, died Sep. 2, 1818 Whitingham, Windham Co., VT, interred Cutting Cemetery, South Whitingham, married Nov. 28, 1760 Plymouth Co., MA,  Joanna Cannon (also recorded as Joanna Angell), born Sep. 4, 1743 Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, died May 20, 1815 Whitingham, VT, the daughter of Ebenezer Cannon & Mercy Blossom, emigrants from Aberdeen, Scotland in 1743.
           Bezaleel was a farmer and Highway Land Surveyor for Somerset, Wilmington and Whitingham, VT.  They moved to Hauge, Warren Coo, NY on the shore of Lake George, with their 8 remaining children in 1788 and then on to Whitingham, VT with but 6 children, the others having died at early ages.

      BEZALEEL WASTE JR., born Mar. 10, 1772 near Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA (then part of Plymouth Co.), died Jun. 28, 1841 Somerset, Windham Co., VT, married Dec. 2, 1793 probably in Hauge, Warren Co., NY Diadama Hayford, daughter of Samuel Hayford (changed from Hefford in 18th Century) and Diadama Bishop of Hanover & Pembroke, Plymouth Co., MA.
           Bezaleel and Diadama moved from Hauge, NY sometime after 1809 to Somerset, VT.  After his death, Diadama moved, Jan. 1858, to Mayfield, Cuyahoga Co., OH.

      LUKE WASTE, born Nov. 9, 1809 Hauge, Warren Co., NY, died Dec. 16, 1884 Plainview, Wabasha Co., MN, married Mar. 7, 1832 Cossayuma, Washington Co., NY, to Hannah Pratt, born Aug. 4, 1803 Greenwich, Washington Co., NY, died Dec. 31, 1884 (just two weeks after her husband) in Sparta, Monroe Co., WI, the daughter of Daniel Pratt & Sarah Morey of Salem, Essex Co., MA  In 1850 Luke and his brother Warren were located in Willoughby, Lake Co., OH.

      WILLIAM HENRY WASTE, born Aug. 29, 1834 Greenwich, Washington Co., NY, died Feb. 3, 1888 Sparta, Monroe Co., WI  (Vol. 1, p. 54),  married Jan. 10, 1864 Chester Twp., Gaeuga Co., OH,  Sarah Jane Day, born Jul. 5, 1838 probably in VT, died Apr. 10, 1906 Sparta, Monroe Co., WI  (Vol. 1, p.449),  the daughter of Martrin Day & Pheobe Pratt.  Phoebe was living in Willoughby, Lake Go., OH at the 1850 Census and apparently widowed.
