THOMAS GILBERT JR., born ca. 1616 in England, died Jun. 5, 1662 Springfield, Hampton Co., MA, married Jun. 30, 1655 Springfield, MA, Catherine Chapin who died 1712, the daughter of Deacon Samuel Chapin.  Note:  She married (1) Nathaniel Bliss.
     Thomas came with his parents to America and moved in 1655 to Springfield.  He received land grants in Springfield in 1655, admitted freeman in 1656 and elected a Selectman in 1660.

THOMAS GILBERT III, born Mar. 15, 1659 Springfield, Hampton Co., MA, died May 14, 1698 Brookfield. Worchester Co., MA, married (1) Aug. 4, 1680 Spring- field, MA, Abilane Marshfield and probably (2) Apr. 2, 1690 Anna Bancroft also in Springfield. To which wife belong his children is not known.  He is recorded as having taken the oath of allegiance Jan. 1, 1679.

THOMAS GILBERT, born Aug. 9, 1759 Brookfield, Worchester Co., MA, died Apr. 28, 1848 Liberty Corners (Chocton), Stueben Co., NY, married Hannah Covell who died Mar. 1, 1852 Liberty Corners, NY. 
     Thomas served as a Private Fifer in the Massachusetts Militia for eight years, three of which were during the Revolutionary War.  He was serving under Colonel Rufus Butrum at the taking of Burgoyne's Hessians, Aug. 16, 1777 at Bennington, VT and under Colonel Coff when he was discharged.
     He received a service pension in 1818 while residing at Bristol, Ontario Co., NY and a Bounty Land Patent for Range 5, Twp. 9, SW quarter section of Section 3, Lot 37, in Holmes Co., OH about seven miles East-South-East of Millersburg.  It is doubtful he ever proved up on this land.  He moved from Massachusetts to Bristol by 1802 and before 1830 to Cohocton, Stueben Co., NY.

FRANKLIN GILBERT, born Feb. 1796 Brookfield, Worchester Co., MA, died 1888 Wallace, Stueben Co., NY, married Oct.9, 1816 Richmond, Ontario Co., NY, Polly (Pollie or Mary) Covell, born in summer of 1798 MA. . 
     He came with his parents to Bristol, Ontario Co., NY by 1802 and moved to Liberty Corners, Cohocton, Stueben Co, NY by 1830.  By Jun. 19, 1855 he was residing in Avoca, Stueben Co. 
     He served in the War of 1812 as a substitute for one Joseph Brown from Bristol, NY from Aug. 28, 1814 to Nov. 5, 1814 and marched to Fort Erie, Canada on Sep. 17, 1814 under the command of Captain Stratton in the regiment of the New York Militia under Colonel Peter Allen and Colonel Hopkins.  Honorably discharged at Batavia, Genesee Co., NY. 
     In his affidavit to J. E. Heath, Commissioner of Pensions, Washington D. C. he states: "in the short period of little more than two months he served under 3 sets of Ensigns, 3 sets of Lieutenants, 2 Captains and 2 Colonels."
     For his service he received two Bounty Land Grants: one of 40 acres and one of 120 acres in 1855. 
     He later served in the War of the Rebellion (Civil War) with both of his sons and seven of his grandsons.  His son, Franklin Jr., was killed at the storming of Petersburg, VA on Apr. 2, 1865 and his son, Joseph, lost an arm near the shoulder. 
     For his service of his country in two wars he received a pension of Eight Dollars a month, (Cert. II 18820) , on Feb. 14, 1871. 
     Shortly after the summer of 1855 he moved west, probably via Janesville, Rock CO., WI and resided in Oregon, Dane Co., WI by Jul. 1, 1871 moving to Baraboo, Sauk Co., WI by Dec. 1872 living probably with his son Joseph.  He returned to Stueben Co., NY living in the town of Wallace by May 20, 1883 and departed this life there in 1888 being interred in the Wallace Cemetery.

MARY GILBERT, born 1821 probably on Bristol, Ontario Co., NY, married ca. 1841/2 Cohocton, Stueben Co., NY, William Patrick Andrus, born Oct. 24, 1816 Prattsburg, Stueben Co., NY, son of James Henderson Andrus & Hannah Mary Dodge, a millwright, he resided in Cohocton and then in Dane Co. WI until 1863 at which time he moved to Southern IL where he died in 1865. (See Andrews/Andrus Family Addendum)
