| JOHN DEANE I, of Dorchester, Dorset, England in 1636, came from Chard, Somerset, England and settled in the area of Cohannet, New Plymouth (later incorporated on March 3, 1639 as Taunton, MA) about 1637 and was admitted freeman Dec. 4, 1638. He married Alice ____? of whom no more is known. His will was dated Apr. 25, 1660, he died before (May?) Jun. 7, 1660, the date his will was proved. One of the first purchasers of Taunton. It appears in the Proprietor Records that he received 12 shares of land. (See also Anthony Slocum, Slocum Family addendum). In the land division of 1641 of Taunton, for 1 Pound, 8 Shillings, 10 Pence, he received 8 heads and 76 acres. In 1643 he is listed in Captain Pool's Company as one of the men of Taunton able to bear arms in the Colony of New Plymouth.
