From Bradenham, Buckinghamshire, England by way of Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales on the ship "Lion" came Jacob Barney about the year 1634 to settle in the town of Salem, Essex Co., MA. The son of Edward and Christian Barney of Bradenham, he came to America with his wife Elizabeth and his first born, Jacob Jr. JACOB BARNEY, born 1601 Bradenham, County Bucks, England, died Apr. 28, 1673 Salem, Essex, Co., MA, married Elizabeth Catesby, born 1605, Bradenham, Buckshire, England, . He became a freeman in Salem, May 4, 1634 and quite often is listed as a Selectman and Deputy to the General Court. It is said he sat on the first Grand Jury in this country. Children:

He was a Baptist Minister. Josiah, born ca. 1658 Married (2) Apr. 26, 1660 Salem, MA, Ann Witt, born ca. 1642 in England, the daughter of John Witt. Sara (Sarah), born Sep. 12, 1662 JOHN BARNEY, born Aug. 1, 1665 Salem, Essex Co., MA died 1728, married Nov. 4, 1686 Swansea, Bristol Co., MA, Mary Troop, born 1667, the daughter of William Troop & Mary Chapman He later moved to Taunton, Bristol Co., MA. JONATHAN, born Aug. 27, 1703 JONATHAN BARNEY, born Aug. 27, 1703 Swansea, Bristol Co., MA, died 1785, married May 8, 1729 Ann (Anna) Dean, born 1710, died 1762, the daughter He was a Representative from Taunton in 1755 and served in the French and Indian War. A member of the land committee of Taunton, Dec. 2, 1740 and on Apr. 13, 1737 received a Proprietor Land Grant on the West side of the Connecticut RI.
