Bartlett Cousin Branch
For many years there has
been a story (speculation) of the connection of Josiah Bartlett who signed
the Declaration of Independence to our family through the wife of Caleb
Sheldon Butts Aylesworth,
Catherine Almina (Mina) Bartlett.
After many hours of research it has been determined
that, while it is quite possible to establish a
connection, we would have to go back to before the progenitors of the various branches
of Bartletts
who came to America.
Another story, that is now nearly proven, is the
connection to Julia Sophia Bartlett, one of the first
students of Mary Baker Eddy who founded the Christian Science Church. Church
records show she
was an early student and that she was one of 52 others that provided $1,000,00
to the fund to build
the Mother Church in Boston, MA. She became a close confident of Mrs. Eddy and
became a
Christian Science Practitioner. Another one who aided in this effort was Ira Oscar
Knapp. Ira's
father, Jehial
Knapp, married Daphne Bartlett a sister of Mathew Bartlett III (See the Knapp
Family
Addendum)
Tracing back the lineage of Julia Bartlett became
a task that took many hours and years. It was
found that both her parents died shortly after the birth of her youngest sister
which left Julia to raise
her
siblings. Julia never married but did manage to complete her job of
raising the family and went
on to
become a teacher of Christian Science. Here is recorded her family line
from its progenitor.
